The Dukesfield community in Runcorn are celebrating the completion of an arts trail through their area on Saturday 26th May at the Brindley Centre in Runcorn. This event will also see the official launch of a professional film, DIY Dukey, made by the young people from the community, who successfully gained £5000 from Halton's Youth Bank to fund the film.
Members of the community have worked tirelessly with Groundwork Mersey Valley's Neighbourhood Pride team to create designs for a subway tunnel near the Bridgewater Canal, which was poorly lit and intimidating. Then they worked with a community artist to paint the tunnel, representing both the old and new town parts of Runcorn, much to the delight of local residents, who really feel the artwork has improved the area.
The young people also took photos of their area, which the artist used to create 2 steel sculptured panels, representing the people and landscapes of Dukesfield. The work will continue in the summer, with another community mural already being planned!
